Information used to deliver the website
When you visit, the hosting infrastructure processes information such as your IP address, the requested page, the time of the request and browser information to deliver and secure the website. Operational logs may also be used to investigate errors or abuse. This processing supports the legitimate interests of operating a reliable and secure website.
Some design assets are delivered by Cloudflare's cdnjs service. Your browser makes a request to that service, which receives connection information such as your IP address. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for details.
When you contact me
If you send an email, I receive the information you choose to provide, including your email address and message. I use it to respond and keep relevant correspondence. This supports my legitimate interest in answering enquiries; information about a proposed engagement may also be needed to take steps at your request before entering a contract.
Please avoid sending sensitive personal information that is not needed for your enquiry. Links to LinkedIn and GitHub take you to separate services governed by their own privacy policies.
Optional Google Analytics
With your permission, this site uses Google Analytics to understand which pages are useful and how visitors use the site. Analytics can process page views, interactions, device and browser information, a cookie identifier and approximate location derived by Google from connection information. See Google's privacy policy and how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
The Google Analytics script is not loaded until you choose to allow analytics. Rejecting analytics does not prevent you from reading any article. Advertising signals and advertising personalisation are disabled in this site's Analytics configuration.
Cookies and your choices
You can allow or reject optional analytics with the same number of steps. Use to change your choice at any time.
- Privacy preference: the site stores your choice in your browser's local storage for up to 180 days. This is used only to remember your preference, including a rejection.
- Analytics cookies: after you allow analytics, Google may set
_gaand_ga_*cookies to distinguish visits. This site's configuration limits their lifetime to 30 days and does not refresh that expiry on every visit.
Withdrawing permission stops this site's Analytics integration, removes accessible first-party Google Analytics cookies and reloads the page without Analytics. It does not erase information already received by Google. You can also clear cookies and local storage through your browser; clearing the preference means you will be asked again. If browser storage is unavailable, the site may ask again on your next page visit.
Advertising
This site does not currently display Google AdSense ads. If advertising is introduced, this notice and the available privacy choices will be updated before advertising is enabled.
Sharing, storage and international processing
Hosting, email and analytics providers process information as needed to provide their services. I do not sell your personal information. Information may also be disclosed where required by law or to investigate misuse of the site.
Service providers may process information outside the UK. Their privacy notices explain the safeguards they use for international transfers. Browser-cookie expiry is separate from the retention of information already received by a provider.
Correspondence is kept for as long as needed to respond, manage any resulting engagement and meet applicable record-keeping obligations. Operational and analytics retention depend on the relevant service settings and purpose. You can contact me for information about retention or to request deletion of information relating to you.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to access, correct, erase or restrict the use of your personal information, object to processing, and request a portable copy. Where processing relies on consent, you can withdraw it without affecting processing that took place beforehand.
